These are the Good Old Days!

Just a few words to start off.  (This is a trial.  I used Open Salon for a few months, but now blogs are completely overpowered by posts of college sports... sigh!  What is an unpaid writer to do?) We hear regular laments about how commercialized Christmas has become.  These laments stand with other similar laments about Halloween, and about how we celebrate weddings, bar mitzvahs, birthdays etc.  The laments are meant to remind us that once we lived more simply (and by implication, purely). However true, the bottom line is that our current unseemly behavior will seem as charming and quaint as a Currier and Ives print when we look back on it under the golden haze of time.   So  ....  be sane and reasonable about your Christmas, but don't beat yourself up, if you are in a crazed search for this season's hot item, ok, don't kill anybody.  But the fervor is OK. By the way, I don't favor blow up Santas, nor do I put up Christmas lights myself. Still, I enjoy when ot
